8 Tips to PCS to a Safe Home

PCS (or a military move, for our non-military friends) season is quickly approaching. We ourselves are preparing to move in less than 60 days. This will be our third military move and our first since being exposed to toxic mold in our housing. As we prepare ourselves for this upcoming venture we have compiled some tips to make your move in to a new home as safe as possible. While most of the tips apply to the military or military housing, it is true for off base housing and civilians as well. 1. Do not sign the lease without seeing the home first. I  understand  100% how complicated this statement is; we ourselves have done this because A. we didn't know any better and B. military housing communities are NOTORIOUS for doing this to families. They use scare tactics to force new residents in to contracts and honestly it is NOT okay. They may try and email a lease over "for your convenience" or have you sign before touring the home. It can be avoided, please do not sign ...

Resources

We want to share the best of what we have found with you. This includes resources for healing, items to detoxify your body, and items to detoxify your life. Air Purifier (clean air means happy air). This is the one we use and is rated for up to 167 sq ft. and filters down to .3 microns.

The Air Doctor pro is rated up to 2400 sq ft (so most homes in their entirety, check your square footage) and has an ultraHEPA filter getting down to .003 microns.

Organic Wool Balls
Reduce the chemical footprint in your laundry by using dryer balls. They reduce static and drying time.

Non-toxic Soap

Dishes is a daily chore around here, all by hand. To reduce the toxic chemicals entering our lives via washing and eating, we have switched to non-toxic soap. Not only that but it is plant based and organic.

Non-Toxic Cleaning/laundry
Branch Basics is a super concentrated natural cleaner that makes bottles upon bottles of various cleaning solutions from just one concentrate. It is the cleanest of clean with no harmful ingredients. For $10 off your first order, click here.

Hair Care
We use Carina Organics and have tried 2 shampoos, 1 conditioner, and the hair gel all with great success. They make your products fresh as you order them and use organic ingredients. No hidden toxins!

Makeup & Skincare
Crunchi right now is our go-to. It is out of this world clean, no blacklisted ingredients, and performs so well! I (Rachel) use the facial bars, day and night skin care, and the makeup. My entire family uses the body bar.

Healthy Body/Supplements
We use Swanson Vitamins online store for all of our supplement needs, including what we use to detox>>> Bit.ly/SwansonsVitamins

Clean Water
Our base is a Superfund site and the water is horrific. We had friends who got violently ill just drinking from the tap. Zero Water is our favorite water purifier and we've been using it for about seven years.

Healthy Food
My favorite place to shop online for organic food is Thrive Market. They have lots of hard to find organic items that I have never found in stores. On our instagram you can see all of the purchases we made from Thrive but the organic gluten free pasta is by far my favorite find.

Our local Target has really upped their organic game, check out their Good & Gather brand.

Sprouts is another local favorite and they have double ad Wednesdays.
